A Miami Beach man has been charged in connection to a deadly boat crash that occurred in November 2024. The crash, which took place in a Key West canal, led to the tragic death of 28-year-old Stephanie Rodriguez from Hialeah.
On June 20, 2025, Reinaldo Aquit, a 48-year-old Miami Beach resident, was arrested by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). He faces nine charges, including a felony charge of vessel homicide, and eight additional misdemeanors.
The Crash: A Careless Turn
The fatal crash took place on November 7, 2024. Aquit was operating a 39-foot speedboat, carrying seven passengers, as part of a poker run event from Miami to Key West. According to FWC investigators, Aquit was driving recklessly, speeding, and ignoring basic navigational rules.

The boat was traveling through Calda Channel, a narrow passage north of Key West, when Aquit made a sharp turn. This sudden maneuver caused the vessel to roll, throwing six passengers, including Rodriguez, into the water. Rodriguez later died from the injuries she sustained.

As a result of the crash, Aquit faces several charges:
