A Farewell to a Miami Beach Institution
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – After almost two decades of serving the Miami Beach community, Sardinia Italian has permanently closed its doors. The beloved restaurant, known for its exceptional wine list and wood-burning oven, closed its chapter on Father’s Day at 1801 Purdy Avenue. The announcement, made on social media, did not provide specific reasons for the closure but instead offered heartfelt thanks to the restaurant’s loyal customers.
A Heartfelt Goodbye to Loyal Patrons
In its farewell message, the Sardinia team shared:
“It’s the end of an era. As we draw the curtain on an incredible 20-year journey, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude. Your support has been the foundation of our success, and every meal shared, every story exchanged, and every smile has made our restaurant a home.”
The post continued with a message of deep appreciation:
“We are deeply thankful for the memories we’ve created together and the friendships we’ve forged. It has been an honor to serve you, and we will cherish these moments forever.”

Sardinia’s Legacy and History
Sardinia was founded in 2006 by Chef Pietro Vardue, who hails from Sardinia, and restaurateur Antonio Gallo. Situated in the Sunset Harbor neighborhood, the restaurant became known for its delicious pasta, pizza, grilled meats, and fresh seafood. Over the years, it gained a loyal following, offering both locals and visitors a taste of authentic Italian cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere.
More Closures in Miami Beach
Sardinia’s closing is part of a series of recent closures affecting the Miami Beach dining scene. Just a month before, the popular Red South Beach steakhouse shut its doors after 17 years. Additionally, Le Zoo, a French restaurant in Bal Harbour, closed in April. In May, the Michelin-recommended Sereia and Michelin-starred EntreNos also closed, leaving a significant void in the city’s diverse culinary landscape.
A Final Goodbye to a Cherished Institution
Sardinia’s closure marks the end of an era for the neighborhood and leaves behind cherished memories for the countless patrons who experienced its warmth, fine dining, and impeccable service over the years. It will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of dining there.
